Friday night I saw Road House: The Play! and it was quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever seen. It was a comedic interpretation of the Swayze classic. I can’t really do justice to how great the performance was, but the setup was like this: a tiny stage without amplified audio, a small cast that played multiple roles, a two piece band that played music throughout, a prop/stage-hand guy, and a narrator. The jokes were hilarious, the timing was great, the small, intimate space was fantastic, the music was good and funny, and the narration was self-aware. Everything I’m saying is actually doing the show a disservice. I wish there was a recording somewhere.
